Each summer the Dutchess County Fair opens to locals and tourists alike. And each summer, we go. We love the fair. To us, it is a demarcation of time. A moment to take stalk of what has happened since the last time we ate an elephant ear and overpaid to toss a ring toward a bottle. Its ability to make us reflect on the past year and feel both nostalgic for the year behind us and, hopeful that next year might be better, are almost religious in nature.
